Born in Huddersfield in 1965, Mike (Percy) Pearson first took up the challenge of attempting to make a melodic noise on a cornet (a challenge some would say he is yet to achieve!) at age 10. Having joined the Huddersfield Youth Brass Ensemble at age 12 he progressed through the cornet ranks to be Principal Cornet until his departure in 1984 (19 seemed a little old to still be playing in a Youth Band).
'Percy' joined the Priest Lindley Band (as titled then) where he stayed for 3 years playing front row cornet and finally Flugel. A career move to Hull resulted in a playing sabbatical until 1991 when, having returned to Huddersfield, he was enticed/lured/cajoled/conned out of retirement by Bruce Jones (1st Trom) to assist Huddersfield Brass Ensemble in their new quest as a 'competing' band.
In 1999 'Percy' was one of the founding members of Pennine Brass and it's first (short-lived!) Principal Cornet. He is very pleased (not as much as everyone else) to find himself gradually sliding down the cornet ranks to a position more in keeping with his talents (4th cornet?).
When not on Pennine Brass
duty, including performing his role as Treasurer (how can so much time be spent
over so little money?), 'Percy' is an IT Project Manager with the Halifax and
has two children, Joshua and Ellie. He used to be a Saturday afternoon cricketer
and a Sunday morning footballer
(well he turned up and kicked players more than
the ball but always said he was more clumsy than malicious
.ummm!) but
had to give up both due to band commitments.
